ZAGREB, Jan 31 (Hina) - The Croatian parliamentary majority, a
coalition of six parties and the Opposition on Monday reached an
agreement on the distribution of duties at the Croatian National
Sabor's House of Representatives, to be constituted on Wednesday.
The coalition of the Social Democratic Party/Croatian Social
Liberal Party (SDP/HSLS) will have ten presidents and vice-
presidents each in the House of Representatives' committees; the
strongest opposition party - the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) -
will have five presidents and six vice-presidents; the coalition of
four parties will each have four presidential seats whereas the
coalition of the Croatian Party of Rights/Croatian Christian
Democratic Union (HSP/HKDU) will have one presidential seat, as
will minority representatives.
We have reached an agreement and the House of Representatives will
be constituted without any major problems on Wednesday, February 2,
said SDP's Mato Arlovic after the meeting.
Arlovic said today's agreement created conditions for the active
participation of all parliamentary parties in the Sabor's work.
Vladimir Seks of the HDZ and Anto Djapic of the HSP also stated the
parties fully agreed on the distribution of parliamentary seats.
They announced that their benches would tomorrow establish the
names of their parliamentary officials and Arlovic said the SDP
would do it this afternoon.
According to the agreement, the HDZ will also have two Sabor vice-
presidents, who will be elected by secret ballot at tomorrow's
meeting of the HDZ parliamentary bench.
Sabor President and Acting Head of State Vlatko Pavletic should be
informed about the agreement this afternoon.
Seks and Arlovic said changes of the parliamentary book of rules
would divide in two the Committee for Interior Policy and National
Security and that the HDZ would have a president or a vice-president
in one of those two new committees.
The candidate of the coalition of six parties for the post of Sabor
President is Croatian Peasants' Party's (HSS) president Zlatko
Tomcic.
Arlovic and Zdravko Tomac (SDP) and Baltazar Jalsovec (HSLS) will
most probably be the other three vice-presidents of the Sabor.
