ZAGREB, Jan 11 (Hina) - Croatian parliament president and acting
head of state Vlatko Pavletic on Tuesday held talks with the
presidents of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) and the Croatian
Christian Democratic Union (HKDU) regarding the impending transfer
of authority.
We agree the transfer of authority should be effected within
constitutional deadlines, and as soon as possible, so that the new
government might commence acting responsibly, effectively and at
once, Pavletic told reporters in Zagreb.
After tomorrow's talks with Croatian Democratic Union acting
president Vladimir Seks, Pavletic will state the dates for the
appointment of the mandatary of the government and the constituting
of parliament's House of Representatives.
Pavletic announced for next week a meeting with the representatives
of all parliamentary parties to agree on the constituting of
parliament and the make-up of parliamentary committees.
Pavletic expressed hope the meeting would proceed in an atmosphere
of mutual understanding and responsibility because, he added, the
new parliament will have a bigger role and responsibility than in
the past.
HSP president Anto Djapic and HKDU's Marko Veselica assessed
today's talks with Pavletic as very good. Both parties advocate a
speedy and civilised transfer of authority, said Djapic.
He pointed out it was necessary to as soon as possible constitute
the House of Representatives and appoint the government which will
be able to take over responsibility and keep the promises made
during pre-electoral campaigning.
