ZAGREB, Jan 18 (Hina) - Croatian parliament president and acting
head of state Vlatko Pavletic on Tuesday decided each official
appointed by late Croatian President Franjo Tudjman should be
issued an individual letter of release.
Pavletic made his decision following today's talks with the
president of the Constitutional Court and a meeting with Premier
Zlatko Matesa. About 40 letters of release, for which he has already
issued orders, refer to the premier, ministers, deputy ministers,
and state secretaries, he said.
Pavletic told reporters letters of resignations were handed in by
presidential advisers Ivic Pasalic and Markica Rebic, the
president's chief-of-staff Ivica Kostovic, and the head of the
Office for National Security, Ivan Jarnjak. Their resignations
come into force on Januay 31.
As regards the government, Pavletic said that according to the law,
the government could either resign or Pavletic could release of
duty only the premier, which would automatically mean the release
of all ministers, but not the automatic release of deputy ministers
and state secretaries.
"This is the cleanest job, and I have accepted the reasons to act
this way," said Pavletic
The letters of release for the members of the government will be
dated January 22, and will come into force once the new premier
submits to Pavletic a list with the names of the ministers of the new
government. Other parliament employees are protected by the Labour
Law, said Pavletic.
He confirmed January 22 remained the day when Ivica Racan would be
appointed new premier. Tomorrow's meeting with him will introduce
the final settlement of the authority take-over issue, Pavletic
announced.
The date for the appointment of the new premier could be postponed
to January 26 in case Croatian Peasant People's Party president
Josko Kovac filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court
regarding irregularities surrounding January 3 parliamentary
elections.
Pavletic announced February 1 however remained the day of the
constituting of the new parliament.
Asked if upon leaving the duty of acting head of state he would seek
the presidential pension, Pavletic said he would "seek the pension
I am entitled to under the law."
