ZAGREB, Nov 16 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament decided with a majority vote on Friday to strip Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) deputies Drago Krpina, Ivic Pasalic and Ivan Jarnjak of immunity. This measure was requested by the Split
County Prosecutor's Office due to suspicion that the three men encouraged abuse of office in the privatisation of the Split-based Slobodna Dalmacija daily. The HDZ does not oppose the establishment of anyone's responsibility, but it does oppose doing that on the basis of illegal pseudo-facts, which are an introduction in the persecution of the HDZ, the party whip Vladimir Seks said. Seks conveyed his party's stand that stripping the three deputies of immunity was part of a process of "criminalisation and vilification" of the party and a sign that Croatia was turning into a "police state."(hina) sb rml
