ZAGREB, Nov 10 (Hina) - The Croatian People's Party (HNS) objects to
a government reshuffle on a ministerial level as it would be
harmful, except in the case of a resignation or if a party withdrew
its minister from the government in agreement with the premier, HNS
president Vesna Pusic said on Saturday.
The HNS, a member of the five-party ruling coalition, convened a
central committee session in Zagreb, concluding the coalition
should improve its performance and effectiveness in the
realisation of its objectives.
The party calls for establishing the "rules of the game" as the
basis of cooperation among the coalition partners, which it says
ought to be loyal to the government and critical of its work,
without, however, bringing it into question.
"The coalition hasn't functioned well and effectively enough,"
Pusic told reporters after the session. She assessed the ruling
coalition's survival as a success and said it should stick it out
until the end of its four-year mandate.
A successful performance on the coalition's part requires the
definition of goals, the HNS maintains, stressing the elimination
of bureaucratic barriers to foreign investments and the
introduction of tax cuts for investors were a priority.
Citing the coalition's successes, the party mentioned the
Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the European Union,
President Stipe Mesic's visit to Israel, the financing and building
of the Zagreb-Split motorway project, the reconstruction of houses
in formerly war-affected areas, the reduced state debt and
illiquidity.
The HNS reproaches the government for its lack of ambition in the
projection of economic growth, indecisiveness in implementing
reforms, keeping old structures in the authorities, and excessive
attention on itself and internal issues.
