WASHINGTON, Oct 18 (Hina) - The management of the US company
"Baxter", whose dialysers are believed to be the cause of the sudden
death of 21 kidney patients in Croatian hospitals, on Wednesday
asserted that it regarded the safety and security of people as its
primary task.
Corroborating this statement, a spokeswoman for this company,
Tanya Tyska, said Baxter had set up an independent team of experts,
who should work together with Croatia's authorities in a
comprehensive investigation into those tragic events.
The team of experts is led by an eminent nephrologist, Professor
Bernard Canaud, from Montpellier, France, and other members are
professors from well-known European universities and hospitals,
and representatives of a German company, TuV Product Service, Tyska
told Hina.
She denied a report recently published by a Croatian daily, which
claimed that Baxter had negotiated with Pliva, Croatia's leading
drugs firm and importer of Baxter's controversial dialysers, on
joint investment in a plant for manufacturing infusion solutions
outside Zagreb.
We did not discuss any joint investment with Pliva, Tyska said
describing the daily's allegations as rumours to which it was not
appropriate to respond.
Baxter's management also refuted assertions that this corporation
held Pliva's shares, about which some Croatian media speculated.
