ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - The Agrokor group is the first Croatian
company to start its own production line in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and
the biggest Croatian investor in the Bosnian economy, with an
investment of approximately DM100 million to date, Agrokor vice-
president Ljerka Puljic stated at the Zagreb Autumn Fair press
conference Wednesday.
She explained the first investments set up a distribution network
for Agrokor products, but the investment strategy included both
distribution and production from the very beginning, along with
introducing the leading Bosnia-Herzegovina companies to the
Croatian market through the biggest retail chain, Konzum.
In the last two years, Agrokor successfully achieved its goals
through take-over of the Citluk ice-cream factory and purchase of
the majority share package in Sarajevo company Kiseljak.
Those two companies, along with their distribution centres in all
the major Bosnian cities, employ around 500 people.
The Citluk ice-cream factory commanded 75 percent of the Bosnian
market in only two years, Puljic stated, adding that Kiseljak has
similar ambitions.
Besides acquisitions, Agrokor also works on developing relations
with other Bosnian companies, Puljic added, like the confectionery
industry company Agrokomerc, and Sarajevo company Klas.
Agrokor is working on becoming the leading company in South-eastern
Europe, and expects the Croatian government to recognise it as one
of the strongest Croatian companies, which can contribute greatly
to economic growth and export increase.
Puljic also announced Agrokor planned to enter retail in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, but those plans were in the research and development
phase at the moment.
