congratulated Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica and Serbian
Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic on the first anniversary of toppling
Slobodan Milosevic and his regime.
In separate telegrams, Bush congratulates the two officials on the
first anniversary of the victory over tyranny, saying the brave
acts which led to a peaceful replacement of the Milosevic regime
will remain an inspiration for all. In the telegram to Djindjic,
Bush says such inspiration lies also in the fact that Milosevic was
extradited to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
The United States president is counting on Kostunica's and
Djindjic's help in the struggle against global terrorist networks,
which he says represent a threat to all democratic countries.
Bush is confident Serbia and Montenegro will succeed in resolving
their differences quickly and equally, within the context of a
reformed democratic Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
The U.S. president says his country appreciates the efforts the
Yugoslav and Serbian governments are investing towards
constructive cooperation with the United Nations administration in
Kosovo. Bush urges the two governments to encourage Serbs in the
southern province to register for a parliamentary ballot next
month.
