BELGRADE, Sept 27 (Hina) - Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica on
Thursday reiterated that a representative of the federal
government must participate in possible talks on redefining
Serbia-Montenegro relations "because any other solution would
represent support to the standpoint that the federal state does not
exist."
In a short address to the nation, which was broadcast live by the
state television, Kostunica accused the Montenegrin leadership of
secessionism, stressing the coalition comprising Serbia's DOS and
Montenegro's "Together for Yugoslavia" would support the
standpoint on the participation of representatives of the federal
government in possible talks on Yugoslavia's future.
The Yugoslav President stressed he did not want to participate in
the breaking up of Yugoslavia, adding, however, he did not oppose
the separation of Serbia and Montenegro, should the two republics
decide to do so at a democratically organised referendum.
He called upon the citizens of the two republics to think if after
the separation Montenegro would become a more democratic and Serbia
a wealthier country, and whether they would return to Europe sooner
as Yugoslavia or as two small, underdeveloped countries.
