Health Minister Ana Stavljenic-Rukavina said the government knew
its decisions on health insurance directly affected all citizens,
and added the most endangered categories would be protected in an
upcoming health reform.
Labour and Social Care Minister Davorko Vidovic pointed to the
issue of mines and the fact that 4,000 square kilometres of Croatian
soil was infested with about one million landmines. He emphasised
the importance of a national mine action strategy which was aimed at
resolving the problem by 2010.
Jody Williams, an ambassador for the International Campaign to Ban
Landmines and winner of the Nobel prize for peace, said cooperation
between civil society and the government in dealing with all
issues, including landmines, was of crucial importance.
She added that to date 141 countries had signed an agreement on the
non-use and annihilation of unconventional weaponry. It was
ratified by 119, including Croatia.
