ZAGREB, Aug 30 (Hina) - Four-thousand square kilometres of Croatian soil have yet to be cleared of mines, and the Mine Action Centre believes Croatia will be completely demined before 2010, the deadline set in a national demining
programme. This was said on Thursday at a round table in Zagreb, which saw numerous eminent domestic and foreign experts in the field agree that joint activity on the part of non-governmental organisations and state institutions was important in demining, as was informing the world public about this issue and educating the local population about its dangers. Croatian Health Minister Ana Stavljenic-Rukavina said mine

To date 1,828 persons were killed by mines in Croatia.
