television BK Telecom and TV B-92 on Tuesday broadcast live the
beginning of the trial of Slobodan Milosevic before the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia,
commented by domestic reporters and analysts.
The 12-minute hearing was not long enough for the analysts to give a
complete opinion on Milosevic's attitude before the ICTY.
They are unanimous that Milosevic behaved the same way he did during
his rule - autistic, which could have been expected. The majority of
the commentators believe that with the time, Milosevic would agree
to have a team of lawyers to prepare his defence.
It was also stressed that in the second part of his address to the
court, Milosevic spoke in Serbian, hoping to "rise adrenaline"
among his supporters in the country, who could stage protests as
early as today.
Milosevic's statement that he does not recognise the tribunal was
expected and announced by his lawyers. Milosevic, however, did not
authorise the two Belgrade lawyers to prepare his defence.
