ZAGREB, May 29 (Hina) - The Croatian Finance Ministry and the
Croatian National Bank (HNB) will introduce fiscal and monetary
measures to curb the further strengthening of the kuna, which, the
Ministry's officials believe, will continue given very high
currency liquidity.
Officials at the Finance Ministry say their goal is not the further
strengthening of the kuna as it would be detrimental to exporters
and tourism.
The state budget is being realised as planned as are budgetary
deficits. Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac dismissed the possibility
of a budgetary revision, i.e. the increase of revenues and
expenditure, but he announced that some changes in the budget would
be made.
The Ministry counted on certain deficits given that privatisation
revenues are some 700 million kuna less than planned. Nevertheless,
this situation is under control, too, because it is expected that
most planned privatisation revenues will be realised by the end of
the year. Should this not happen, other solutions have been
prepared, officials at the Finance Ministry say.
