GUARANTEES GIVEN MILOSEVIC TO SURRENDER PRINTED IN WEEKLY

BELGRADE, April 5 (Hina) - Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica, Serb President Milan Milutinovic, and Serb Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic have confirmed in writing that the prosecution of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic "was not initiated at the request of the Hague tribunal," NIN weekly said in the latest issue, which hit the news-stands on Thursday. The weekly runs the copy of a statement, dated March 31, in which the three officials say the criminal proceedings against Milosevic were launched on founded suspicion that he committed abuse of office and will be prosecuted by the Yugoslav judiciary. In the statement, the signatories vouch to Milosevic undisturbed communication with the family during trial, as well as security for the family, both personal and material, and finally, that the family may use their residence in 11-15 Uzicka Street. The three signatures are attested by seal. The three officials said the statement was issued to avoid casualties, and that they were confident as to the enforcement of the law and the establishment of the rule of law. The statement's copy publicly confirms the guarantees given Milosevic orally by government negotiator Cedomir Jovanovic during negotiations on his surrender last weekend. (hina) ha sb
