ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - The Croatian national parliament's House
of Representatives on Friday evening wrapped up this week's part of
its session with a discussion on salaries of civil servants and
public workers.
The draft bill on the salaries was supported by the benches of six
parties which make up the ruling coalition.
It was rejected by the strongest opposition party, HDZ (Croatian
Democratic Union).
On behalf of the HDZ bench, Ljerka Mintas Hodak suggested that the
values of coefficients for the complexity of tasks should be
regulated by a law rather than a government decree.
In her mind, it is not good that the draft bill fails to take account
of specific traits of some services.
Many MPs supported the opinion of the Sabor's labour, public health
and social welfare committee that the new act should not refer to
public health workers whose salaries are paid from the Croatian
Health Insurance Institute (HZZO).
Owing to a lack of the quorum, there was no voting on the draft act.
The lower house will again be in session on Tuesday.
