BELGRADE, March 6 (Hina) - General directors of railways of the
"Corridor 10" signed in Belgrade Tuesday an agreement on
establishing a task force for this pan-European section, as well as
a memorandum on promoting the quality of railway cargo transport.
The key strategic goal is a joint appearance of all Corridor 10
railways before EU bodies, and the formation of means for
modernising the corridor, a statement issued after the signing
said.
The two-day meeting in Belgrade was attended by Croatian Railways
general director Marijan Drampetic, as well as the heads of
railways of Slovenia, Macedonia, Austria, Germany, Greece,
Bulgaria and Yugoslavia.
The working group will be based in Vienna. Corridor 10 runs from
Salzburg through Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade, Nis, Skopje and
Solun with auxiliaries running Belgrade-Budapest, Nis-Sofia,
Graz-Zagreb and Veles-Florina.
Croatia's Drampetic told Hina he was satisfied with the meeting and
the achieved results. He expressed expectation that Europe would,
because of the importance of the corridor, prompt international
financial institutions to invest funds.
Pointing out the importance of getting Corridor 10 fully functional
for Croatia, Drampetic said before the 1990's war, the profit for
Croatia from the railway was about 50 million German marks, while
overall turnover for all countries amounted to around 200 million
marks.
