CROATIAN OFFICIALS CONDEMN THURSDAY'S EXPLOSION AT MIROGOJ

ZAGREB, Feb 2 (Hina) - Thursday evening's explosion near the national heroes tomb at Zagreb's central cemetery of Mirogoj was harshly condemned by representatives of Croatia's political and public life. "This is an insane act", parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic said late Thursday evening. President of the association of anti-fascist fighters Ivan Fumic said this was "a desperate act of primitive persons who believe they can practice democracy with explosives, and not with a democratic way of struggle which is the only possible way for the survival of a nation". He stressed this act "has nothing to do with the standpoint of the Croatian people". The explosion was also condemned by president of the Croatian Helsinki Committee Zarko Puhovski, Liberal Party President Zlatko Kramaric, president of the city committee for human rights Zoran Pusic, Zagreb mayor Milan Bandic, Social Democratic Party representative Snjezana Friganovic, and Croatian democratic Union representative Ivica Kostovic. The explosive was planted near the national heroes tomb at Mirogoj and it went off at about 05.35 pm Thursday. According to first police reports, nobody was injured in the blast. (hina) it
