VARAZDIN - CANDIDATE FOR WORLD HUMANIST CITY

VARAZDIN, Jan 21 (Hina) - After the Bosnian capital, the northern Croatian town of Varazdin is likely to become the second city in the world with the bestowed title - a world humanist city. The candidacy of Varazdin has been proposed by the International League of Humanists.#L# "Varazdin has not been selected by chance, we have been following the developments in that town for some five years. We have come to the conclusion that thanks to its history, culture, economic and other activities as well as tolerance, this town could show to the world how the coexistence is possible," the League Secretary- General, Zdravko Surlan, have said at a recent press conference. The fundamental principles of this international organisation, whose headquarters are in Sarajevo, are - fairness, freedom and the protection of the human dignity. If the town authorities accept Varazdin's candidature, it will become the only Croatian town to have such title, Deouty Mayor Tomislav Bogovic added.
