ZAGREB, Dec 19 (Hina) - Croatia's government has adopted a decree
increasing salaries for teachers in primary and secondary schools,
Education and Sports Minister Vladimir Strugar told reporters on
Thursday. #L#
Starting with January 1, teachers' salaries will increase by three
to nine percent, depending on years in service.
This rectifies the injustice done by previous decisions to
education employees with longer years in service, said Strugar.
The government increased coefficients for primary and secondary
school principals up to 20 percent.
Unions had announced a strike in primary and secondary schools on
January 13-17 demanding higher salaries for all school sector
employees, which the government was unable to consent to.
Auxiliary and technical staff has the same salaries as their
colleagues in public and state services, said Strugar, adding their
salaries had not increased.
