ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament will wrap up a debate
and vote on a new constitutional bill on minority rights by the end
of next week, Premier Ivica Racan said on Thursday evening after
meeting the leaders and whips of the ruling coalition parties. #L#
Racan announced that representatives of the ruling parties'
parliamentary benches would present a single proposal for the
contentious Article 17 of the constitutional law (on the election
of minority representatives) on Monday and offer it to the
Opposition so that the bill might be passed by consensus.
The premier said the coalition had agreed on the definition of the
principle of minority representation in parliament, while the
model of minority representation would be harmonised in the law.
Racan reiterated that proposals would not go below the rights which
the minorities had exercised so far.
The Social Democrat leader added that the coalition supported a
bill on one-off property taxation and the draft would be forwarded
into the first parliamentary reading.
