Of a total of 25 committees, the ratio between the ruling coalition
and Opposition MPs should be so that twelve committees have eight
coalition MPs as against five Opposition members while another
twelve committees would consist of 12 coalition members as against
six opposition members, the president of the committee, Vilim
Herman, said.
This formula would not apply to the Committee for Parliamentary
Cooperation because it consists of MPs whose members are members of
parliamentary delegations to parliamentary assemblies.
The opposition was to have made its comments by November 8 but
because this was not done coalition benches extended the deadline
to January 10, 2003.
The committee suggested that the opposition considered the
possibility that the leading positions in some committees where
these are currently filled by Opposition MPs be passed on to HSLS
MPs.
The current ratio in Sabor committees is such that 16 committees
have presidents from the coalition while 4 committees are headed by
MPs from the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), while the Croatian
Party of Rights (HSP), the Democratic Centre (DC), the Croatian
Bloc (HB) and the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) have presidents
in one committee each.
