ZAGREB, Nov 22 (Hina) - Wages have been paid to the workers of
Sisak's Ironworks today, Deputy Prime Minister Slavko Linic told a
news conference on Friday. #L#
"On the government's behalf I declare that the wages have not been
paid because of yesterday's events in the streets but because the
government is actively following the survival and the struggle for
survival of the Ironworks," said Linic.
The company's employees have been protesting since yesterday at the
new bridge in downtown Sisak, demanding the payment of late wages.
Yesterday the protesters clashed with the intervention police.
When the strategic partner, the Trubo-Impex corporation, walked
out of the Ironworks, the government offered two full pays and a
third one for October because there are interested strategic
partners which could employ many workers and boost export, said
Linic.
