She highlighted the importance of the UN convention which stresses
that every child has the right to life, health and development
without fear.
Other priorities are to ensure that each child has the right to
education, the fight against poverty and protection of children
against harassment and exploitation, Mrs. Annan said.
So far, some 95 million people all over the world have supported the
action called "Say Yes Fir Children" and the action will last until
it covers all children in the world, she added.
Croatian Social Welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic said that since
its ratification of the UN convention on children's rights, his
country had incorporated these rights into many other laws and
legal documents.
Present at the ceremony, which was organised by the national
institute for the protection of families, motherhood and the youth,
were Croatian President's wife, Milka Mesic, Premier's wife, Diana
Plestina, Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic, Interior
Minister Sime Lucin and other public figures.
