Calzedonia has invested around EUR13.33 million in the
construction of production facilities covering 12,000 square
metres and equipment. By the end of next year, another four million
euros will be invested in the employment of 300 workers.
The factory will produce 20 million pairs of men's socks annually.
Calzedonia manager Sandro Veronesi said the new factory was an
important business factor contributing to the friendship between
the Croatian and Italian peoples.
Italian Ambassador Fabio Pigliapoco said that relations between
the two countries were constantly improving and that Italy's
support for Croatia would become very important once Italy took
over the chairmanship of the European Union next year.
Vice Premier Slavko Linic said the factory was proof that it was not
difficult to obtain permits and invest in Croatia. Italy and other
European countries believe in Croatia and its citizens, Linic
said.
Today's opening ceremony was also attended by parliamentary
deputies and county and municipal officials.
Calzedonia plans to build another two production facilities, each
covering an area of 12,000 square metres, which will employ 600
workers. The investment is worth 50 million euros.
