At an extraordinary session today, the Republika Srpska (RS)
government decided to replace Milan Prica, manager of "Orao", the
company which exported the arms to Iraq, Lt. Col. Miljan Vlacic,
head of the air force, and Spasoje Orasanin, head of the
administration for trade in arms and military equipment.
RS Prime Minister Mladen Ivanic announced further measures aimed at
determining the responsibility of all who were involved in the
illegal trade with Iraq, as well as a special audit of transactions
of companies dealing in arms and military equipment.
According to the Banja Luka-based "Nezavisne Novine" daily, Iraq
and "Orao" in October 2000 signed a deal on the delivery of spare
parts and technical assistance to the Iraqi aviation. The deal
earned the company US$8.5 million.
