SPLIT, Oct 22 (Hina) - The president of the national headquarters
for the protection of Homeland War values, Lt. Col. Mirko Condic, on
Tuesday accused the prime minister of "wishing to alienate citizens
from General Janko Bobetko and his associates with dirty and
underhand statements". #L#
The headquarters believes that the statements of PM Ivica Racan,
parliament president Zlatko Tomcic, and Istrian Democratic
Assembly president Damir Kajin are contrary to the claims they made
at the beginning of the Bobetko case.
Racan, Tomcic, and Kajin initially stated that the Hague war crimes
tribunal's indictment against Bobetko undermined the dignity of
the Homeland War, that it was dangerous for Croatia and did not
comply with the Constitution, and now they claim the indictment is
no longer dangerous for the country as it allegedly accuses only
Bobetko, the headquarters said in a statement.
The headquarters says that attempts are being made to depict the 83-
year-old Bobetko as a weakling who is being influenced by others,
which the headquarters says in an outright lie.
The headquarters wonders why PM Racan does not make a commitment
that he will not forcibly serve Bobetko with the indictment, which
the general refuses, if he agrees to be hospitalised.
The headquarters says it is proud to be able to participate in
Bobetko's defence "because, with his decision not to accept such an
indictment, he is saving Croatia from the imposition of the non-
existent guilt for the war in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina".
