The government's efforts must be supported, said Zlatko Matesa of
the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), warning that the government's
consistency would lead to many challenges and threats of sanctions,
but rifts in the national unity should not be allowed.
Jadranka Kosor (HDZ) said that after the indictment against
Bobetko, anybody could be accused and indicted.
The Hague is falsely presenting the situation and Bobetko's role,
it claims that he had planned a crime, not a liberation operation,
Kosor said, adding that The Hague was arrogant because the tribunal
had not interviewed Bobetko, although he was available.
The MPs, both from the ranks of the Opposition and the ruling
coalition, do not bring into question further cooperation with the
tribunal, but their opinions differ with regards to what the
government's new strategy towards The Hague should be.
The Opposition primarily advocates amendments to the Law on
Cooperation with the tribunal, while coalition MPs advocate the
processing of all war crimes before domestic courts.
More than 60 MPs have requested to speak about the indictment
against Bobetko, so the session might last until the late hours of
the night.
The plan is to end the session with conclusions of a working group
which is working during the parliament session.
