It can thus be said that such claims that houses were poorly
reconstructed are unfounded, as claimed by those who were issued
with rulings to vacate properties that they were temporarily
approved to occupy in Knin even though their houses in Kijevo have
been reconstructed, Public Works Minister Radimir Cacic said at a
press conference in Kijevo on Friday.
He pointed out that two deadlines had been set for properties to be
vacated and the government will file suits against those who do not,
seeking additional compensation to be paid to owners.
We accept any criticism on account of reconstruction but not false
accusations, Minister Cacic said.
He pointed out that to date 117,000 residential units had been
reconstructed to which 204,000 displaced persons had returned.
There is still about 16,000 displaced persons in Croatia. This year
a further 4,000 reconstructed residential units will be handed over
to their owners.
The president of the association of returnees, Josip Kompanovic,
said they were satisfied with the current pace of the
reconstruction of houses. The association advocates that everyone
should return to their own homes but it also supports anyone who has
any objections to poorly reconstructed dwellings.
