This was confirmed by Miroslav Dacovic, Osijek's municipal
prosecutor, who added that the criminal charges related to fraud
against the customer.
Pursuant to an examination of a report by the crime police, the
prosecution will decide on further procedure, he said.
The police are still conducting an investigation in Osijek's sugar
factory. Neither the police nor the prosecutor's office revealed
the names of the two people charged, but unofficial sources told
Hina they were Miroslav Kos, the factory's director, and Dragutin
Manca, a member of the management board.
Kos and Manca were suspended by the Supervisory Board at the end of
August.
The export of sugar mixed with sugar-cane was a direct violation of
the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Croatia and
the European Union, since the agreement envisages non-customs
exports only for products of Croatian origin.
