The head of the Zagreb police general crime department, Zeljko
Prsa, told reporters at Friday's news conference that five
employees, suspected of omissions and acts committed violating the
law by irregularly storing hazardous substances, had been
charged.
The five, he said, had committed the crime of endangering lives and
property, which implied a prison term of one to 10 years. The
charges were filed with the Zagreb County State Prosecutor.
Damage caused by the fire have been estimated at 2.25 million kuna,
Prsa said.
He added that there was still no information from competent
services and institutions about pollution or harmful effects on the
lives and health of people, thus, there were no elements to estimate
the extent of the crime of endangering the environment.
Analyses about the fire and PUTO's work are continuing through the
cooperation between police, county prosecutor, Environment
Protection Ministry and competent institutions, he said.
