ZAGREB, Sept 9 (Hina) - The German investment and development
company DEG on Monday presented the Croatian Tourism Ministry with
a regional tourist development concept for Dubrovnik-Neretva
County which will increase this region's quality over the next few
years for individual tourists and set up pre-conditions for further
investments into the tourist sector. #L#
The development concept is part of a tourist masterplan that DEG
came up with, with Germany's assistance and the Croatian
government's cooperation, late last year. It involves the
Dubrovnik region and the Sava valley, including the Lonja river
region.
The concept involves not only sea destinations but also development
of continental tourism, it was said today.
The regional concept for Dubrovnik-Neretva County foresees the
launching of seven individual projects that would contribute to a
gradual transition from mass to high quality tourism.
According to the director of DEG's centre in Dubrovnik, Volker
Herrman, so far the projects have been supported by Croatian
institutions and local residents. Before the end of the month
meetings should be set up with potential investors, of whom there
are many, said Herrman.
The DEG estimates that the cost of the entire project could amount
to some 250 million euros, with a 2010 deadline. Part of the funding
will be invested by the DEG, but the major portion will come from
investors the DEG will find.
Croatian Tourism Minister Pave Zupan-Ruskovic expressed her
satisfaction with the concept, stressing that its implementation
mostly depended on the interest of investors.
