The director of the Barcelona-based THR company, Eulogio Bordas,
said this at Thursday's presentation of a strategic and marketing
plan for Croatia's tourism in the southern Adriatic town of
Dubrovnik. The plan was drafted by the Spanish company in
cooperation with the Croatian Tourism Ministry and the National
Tourism Board.
The plan, among other things, foresees improving the
competitiveness of Croatia's tourism, attracting large world-
known hotel chains and improving promotion on German, Czech,
Austrian, Italian and Slovene markets. According to some
estimates, in the next four years about 70 percent of all tourists
are expected to arrive from these countries.
The plan includes private accommodation offer, but it is noted that
hotel accommodation is more profitable because a single hotel bed
produces 17 times more jobs than the one in an apartment, which
occupies 17 times more land.
The plan also proposes the creation of new tourist products which
Croatia does not have at the moment, such as nautical charter,
cruises along the Adriatic, 'Robinson-style' tourism on islands,
and beach festivals. A lot needs to be done to improve hospitality
and the offer of authentic food and drinks.
The plan also suggests abandoning the policy of low prices and
extending the tourist season.
