"The risk that the presidential ballot in Serbia will fail is
great," Djindjic told Beta news agency, fearing that an
insufficient number of constituents will go to the polls.
If around one million Kosovo Albanians are included in voters
lists, the total number of voters would rise up to some 7.5 million,
one million more than at the last presidential election in December
2002.
The law stipulates that a minimum 51 percent of the electoral body
must vote in order for the election to be valid, which means that
around 3.7 million constituents should go to the polls.
According to Djindjic, every presidential candidate with a
democratic programme is acceptable for the Serbian government.
"It's still too early to make forecasts," he said.
Djindjic stated that if the election failed it would pose a "problem
for the government which will have to explain abroad what is going
on in the country and if there is a crisis."
