The protest organiser is the just founded Committee for the
Protection of Slovene Citizens Abroad annexed to the Slovene
Conference of the World Slovene Congress. According to
announcements, the protest will be dignified and peaceful staged by
Slovene cultural activists and will be held in front of Josko Joras'
house on Saturday.
This was confirmed at a press conference by the president of the
Conference, Franci Feltrin, stressing that the procession could
attract about fifty writers and academics in an effort to motivate
the Slovene government to protect its citizen and to have him
released from a jail in Pula.
Feltrin also said that the Slovene police have announced that they
will not allow the protesters to cross the Slovene border and to
arrive to Joras' house in Mlini which is on the Croatian side of that
inter-border region.
Josko Joras is a Slovene citizen who lives in Mlini on the Croatian
side of the border. He is currently in a Pula jail where he has been
since August 21 serving a 30-day sentence for not paying court fees.
Joras had ignored to pay seven magistrate-ordered fines which had
accumulated since 1999. The fees relate to customs and other
violations because Joras did not recognise Croatia's sovereignty
in Mlini near Buje.
