"Racan informed us of his standpoint and we told him ours. We tried
to find some joint formula, but unfortunately this will be
difficult," Kolec said. Racan's hands are tied because his
government made an agreement which he cannot withdraw, Kolac told
reporters outside the government's building after the meeting
between Istrian fishermen and the prime minister.
Istrian fishermen demand that Slovenians stop catching fish in the
Croatian sea, Kolec said.
He dismissed claims by former foreign minister Mate Granic that in
1997 fishermen were satisfied with the then agreement on cross
border trade with Slovenia.
After the talks with Racan, the fishermen delegation travelled to
Ljubljana.
