The meeting will address contentious issues in connection with the
issuance of fishing permits and quotas for Slovene fishermen
operating in Croatian waters, Slovenia's Benjamin Lukman told the
STA news agency before the meeting.
Asked to comment on Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula's
proposal to establish in Piran Bay a joint fishing area so as to
avert fishing incidents like the ones that have been occurring for
the past two weeks, Lukman said that such an area was already
determined by the agreement on local border traffic and
cooperation.
The Mokrice Castle meeting is also attended by members of a
fishermen's commission.
Last night, Slovene PM and former Koper mayor Aurelio Juri once
again urged Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek to react to the Piran Bay
incidents and meet with Croatian counterpart Ivica Racan.
"Among Istrian fishermen there are nationalists who demand a
demarcation line along the middle of Piran Bay, past agreements
notwithstanding. The two states should define the borderline as
soon as possible as more serious incidents might occur.
International arbitration is the final solution," Juri claimed.
The Slovene media today once again expressed concern over the fact
that not one senior official has reacted to the incidents because
they are on holiday.
