This level is in keeping with forecasts by the Osijek-Baranja
County Flood Centre which estimated that the water level would
reach 731 cm and then start stagnating and gradually decreasing so
that the rush of water would only be brief.
The level of the Drava near Osijek was 430 cm at 5 pm, which was 20
centimetres higher than it was at midnight Wednesday night.
The Osijek branch of Croatian Waters expects the water to reach its
peak during the night or early Friday morning but it should not
exceed 450 cm. It appears that there will not be any unexpected
surprises, however, a state of maximum preparedness will be valid
until any possible danger has been eliminated.
Regular measures of protection against flooding are still in force
in Osijek and Batina.
