Health Minister Andro Vlahusic said the debt accumulated by health
institutions at the end of 1999 was 829 million kuna, and more than
one billion kuna at the end of last year.
To render the health system financially stable, two billion kuna
must be gathered and reform measures implemented, read the
conclusions the government adopted.
Vlahusic said that the employment of 150 doctors was approved in
July, and announced the employment of as many in September.
Any doctors directly involved in providing medical assistance will
not be dismissed, but there will be dismissals for those not
directly participating in this process, the minister said.
