Members of the Umag maritime police noticed about 8:40 a.m. Monday
morning that four Slovenian fishing boats had crossed the
demarcation line and entered Croatian territorial waters.
According to Jaklin, as Croatian maritime police arrived on the
scene, they ordered the fishing boats to leave Croatian territorial
waters. Instead, Jaklin said, a Slovene police boat arrived on the
scene immediately after which gave way to a "tense" situation with
both countries' police trying to convince each other. The
discussions continued for almost five hours.
Only at about 1:28 p.m. did the Slovene fishing boats return to
their own territorial waters and the Slovene police did the same at
about 2.55 p.m. Fortunately, the incident ended without any serious
consequences, Jaklin said.
