The protest was forwarded because of an incident which saw a
Croatian patrol boat inspecting Slovene fishing boats in
Slovenia's territorial waters, Slovenia's Foreign Ministry said in
today's statement.
The statement notes that Article 15 of the UN Convention on Maritime
Law does not condone the view that the middle of Piran Bay
represents the demarcation line between Slovenia and Croatia.
Ljubljana expressed a harsh protest also against attempts to
enforce Slovene jurisdiction in Slovenia's territorial waters, as
well as the harassment of Slovene fishermen.
The Slovene ministry statement further notes that Slovenia expects
the Croatian government in the future to refrain from similar one-
sided acts that penetrate Slovenia's state territory, and warned
the Croatian side that if it should continue with such moves this
could undermine the reaching of an agreed solution to open inter-
state issues.
