LJUBLJANA, July 9 (Hina) - Slovenia's Foreign Minister Dimitrij
Rupel repeated his idea of partnership between Slovenia and Croatia
in line with the architecture of the future Europe and the need for
stabilisation in Southeast Europe. #L#
Lately, Rupel expressed this idea on several occasions referring to
political co-operation between the two countries in line with the
system that exists with the Vishegrad Group of countries or the
Benelux countries. The Slovenian diplomat expressed his ideas on
Slovenia's foreign affair policies that were presented on Tuesday
on the ministry's Web site.
Tying Slovenia and Croatia would be the most logical however, talks
in this direction just can't seem to get off the ground. Partnership
or an alliance between countries in the region, particularly with
Croatia, would be a long-term task for Slovenia's foreign policy,
Rupel said.
According to Rupel, Slovenia as a future EU and NATO member country,
should create alliances on a regional level in an effort to protect
its national interests and to defend its identity. This would
include 'horizontal ties' to Croatia while on a vertical level,
ties to Germany could be included. This, Slovenia's minister
reminds, proved to be a good model during the process of gaining
independence for both countries however, some people have
forgotten this in the meantime.
