The Croatian ministry said in a statement Minister Rupel's stands
were in line with Croatia's policy of strengthening good
neighbourly relations and mutual respect. Croatia has been
investing additional efforts so that open issues between the two
countries could be resolved as soon as possible, to the
satisfaction and in the interest of both countries, the statement
said.
The ministry also mentioned a proposal by Foreign Minister Tonino
Picula, presented at a meeting with Rupel last December, when
Picula suggested the signing of an agreement on regional
cooperation, in line with Croatia's Stabilisation and Association
Agreement with the European Union. Rupel accepted the proposal at
the time, but no meeting on the matter has been held yet.
Minister Tonino Picula has been in contact with his Slovene
counterpart, with whom he recently exchanged several letters which
should contribute to advancing partnership relations, reads the
statement, noting that Croatia was aware that relations between the
two neighbouring and friendly countries should be "freshened up"
with new initiatives.
