ZADAR, Aug 6 (Hina) - The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)
President, Ivo Sanader, on Tuesday predicted that his party would
come in power after the next elections, as the current ruling
coalition was selling off the reputation of the country. #L#
During his visit to local authorities in the coastal town of Zadar,
Sanader said this was obvious after the recent incident on the
Danube, provoked by Serbia, when Premier Ivica Racan and Sabor
President Zlatko Tomcic immediately had gone to the border area for
talks with Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic.
The incumbent authorities, led by Racan and (President Stjepan)
Mesic are incapable of protecting and promoting the national
interests whereas the purpose of the HDZ activities is to work to
the benefit of Croatia, Sanader claimed.
He added that his party's programme had two guidelines: the
protection and promotion of the national interests and an attempt
to address the pressing problems in the Croatian society.
According to Sanader there would be no Croatia without the HDZ and
Franjo Tudjman, and, as he said, therefore they are proud of
yesterday's holiday - Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day.
Sanader asserted that the current government would step down before
the end of its term of office.
The HDZ leader criticised the national television (HTV) director,
Mirko Galic, for, as Sanader says, censoring reports referring to
this strongest opposition party.
