The mere fact that Sarajevo rather than Zagreb or Belgrade was the
venue for the Balkan Trilateral Summit is recognition by the
international community that Bosnia was the biggest victim in the
war that followed the disintegration of Yugoslavia. However, it is
difficult to agree with remarks that this was a historical summit.
It could be referred to instead as a stone in a mosaic that needs to
be made so that circumstances in this part of Europe can be
stabilised. The mosaic will require the work of pragmatic
politicians because life passes us by in practise, a commentary in
the Ljubljana "Dnevnik" daily, written by Zoran Senkovic, notes.
Another daily, called "Delo", however, believes that the meeting
symbolises the end of appetites towards Bosnia, and this is the
first meeting which should be followed by another ones.
Slovenian President Milan Kucan is to visit Sarajevo on Thursday
where he will meet with members of the presidency and the government
as well as the international community's High Representative,
Paddy Ashdown, and Slovenian soldiers taking part in NATO-led
Stabilisation Force.
Nevertheless, Kucan's visit - like the majority of his recent tours
to countries in the region - is intended to promote Slovenian
business prospects. During his last visit to the Bosnian capital
Kucan attended the opening of a supermarket from the Slovenian
"Mercator" chain of shops. On Thursday, he will open "HIT", a
Slovenian fun park and playground.
