ZAGREB, July 27 (Hina) - The Croatian prime minister designate,
Ivica Racan, and his political partners on Saturday morning resumed
talks on the personnel and potential candidates for the new
cabinet. #L#
According to a statement Racan gave after they adjourned the
meeting last night, the negotiations on this topic should wrap up
today.
Much is still unknown about the composition and make-up of the next
government.
What is known is that the possible appointment of Neven Budak, the
dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, as Science Minister is
contentious. According to unofficial reports from Croatian Peasant
Party (HSS), the thing which this party holds against Budak is his
opposition to the introduction of religious classes in pre-school
education and his stand on the Croatian treaty with the Vatican.
Budak was one of persons who insisted on the judgement whether the
treaty with the Holy See was in compliance with the constitution.
Racan and his partners have already concluded talks on the new
cabinet's programme and priorities and on agreement on a
parliamentary majority. Details of these agreements have not yet
been revealed to the public.
