SDP AND HSS CHIEFS: WE CONSIDER IN DETAIL NEW CABINET'S PROGRAMME

ZAGREB, July 23 (Hina) - The Croatian prime minister designate and Social Democrat (SDP) leader, Ivica Racan, and Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) leader, Zlatko Tomcic, said the chiefs of a parliamentary majority on Tuesday had discussed in detail the new government's programme but had not talked very much about possible candidates for the new cabinet.
#L# "We did not talk very much about the personnel, but this issue is to be added to the agenda," Racan told reporters after the party leaders' session on Tuesday afternoon. Neither Racan nor Tomcic were willing to reveal names of future ministers, but Racan admitted that he would insist on some non- partisan staff in some offices. "For instance, if it refers to economy and science, so that we thus may prove that we are able to de-politicise these two important sectors," Racan added. Tomcic told reporters that the participants in the meeting had only received the information from the PM designate about some of his plans and talks "on four, actually three ministries, as he (Racan) had no proposal for one (ministry)." The HSS head said this matter would still be discussed among the parties, and it remained an open subject matter. Tomcic added that Tuesday's meeting had revolved around the new government's programme. The programme will consist of two sections: one of them is a comprehensive containing general stands of the government on some economic, social and other issues. Tomcic said the parliamentary majority's heads should draw up a list of concrete projects on which the new cabinet would insist. Racan believes that the leaders will fully harmonise their views on the government's priorities. After their three-hour-long meeting Racan and Tomcic left the government building later than other participants in the session. Present at the meeting were the chiefs of SDP, HSS, Liberal Party (LS), Croatian People's Party (HNS), and the Club of Independent Liberals. They will continue their meeting on Wednesday morning.
