SPLIT, July 15 (Hina) - The summer festival in the biggest Croatian
coastal city began on Sunday evening. #L#
The ceremonial opening of the Split Festival took place in the
city's Riva (town quay) for the first time in the 48-year-long
history of this cultural event.
The spectacular ceremony, directed by Kresimir Dolencic, commenced
when actors, sailing aboard a traditional Croatian vessel
"falkusa", brought the festival's flag to Riva.
Culture Minister Antun Vujic opened the festival on behalf of
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, under whose auspices it will be
held in the coming 30 days. In this period Split citizens and guests
can see 58 plays, concerts and ballets performances.
