ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - The Democratic Centre (DC) will not support
a new government, as the party believes it will be unstable.
Therefore, this party proposed the set-up of an interim government
with experts, and if it is impossible the DC is in favour of early
elections, the DC leader Mate Granic told reporters after his
consultations with Croatian President on the appointment of the new
government on Tuesday. #L#
"The new government led by (Ivica) Racan will have less support than
the previous one, it will not be stable and has no guarantees for the
success. That is why the DC cannot back it," Granic said.
The DC proposes the establishment of the technical government with
a limited term of office and very clear goals in agreement with the
parliamentary parties and the President of the Republic.
This should lead to the consolidation of the Croatian political
scene and the creation of more natural coalitions, the DC chief
said.
However, Granic is sure that such a government would not be set up
after the first round of consultations. In this case, elections are
a democratic way out from this situation, he added.
He said the former government of the resigned Premier Ivica Racan
failed to accomplish any of its goals, and he described it as an
incompetent and indecisive cabinet.
