ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - Croatia should base its tourism offer on its
exceptionally well-preserved Mediterranean heritage, officials
of the Barcelona-based THR company said in Zagreb on Thursday,
presenting a strategic and marketing plan of the Croatian tourism
until 2005.
The plan, drawn up in cooperation with the Croatian Tourism Board
and the Tourism Ministry, was presented at Zagreb's Sheraton
hotel.
Croatia is the only Mediterranean country which has preserved its
unique regional heritage and in the future it should be promoted as
a country for a different holiday, with autochthonous products and
preserved nature and sea, THR official Eulogio Bordas said.
For the plan to be realised, much work will have to be done because
many in the world still do not believe that Croatia is a democratic
and safe country, Bordas said.
The plan envisages, among other things, the improvement of
Croatia's tourism and a more intensive promotion on the German,
Czech, Austrian, Italian, and Slovene markets. It is estimated that
70 percent of all tourist arrivals in the next four years will be
from these countries. The plan also notes the importance of
encouraging the arrival of hotel chains.
The plan includes 60 market strategies which are to be developed in
the next three years, the most important ones referring to the
creation of new tourist products, including cruises, Robinson
Crusoe tourism, beach festivals, etc. It is also important to work
on Croatian hospitality and the authentic culinary offer, Bordas
said.
The plan proposes abandoning the policy of low prices and extended
tourist season, not only for the sake of increasing profits, but for
the sake of improving the quality of life of tourists and local
residents, he added.
