Commenting on an order by the finance ministry on a special
procedure in passenger traffic which stipulates that customs
officers should not check passenger vehicles crossing the border,
Racan said one could discuss whether the decision was legal or not,
but it was necessary.
"Strikes and any form of expression of dissatisfaction are possible
and acceptable, but we must not destroy Croatian interests. I
believe nobody wants to nor will support anything that is harmful to
Croatian tourism, because a large number of people in this country
make a living from tourism," Racan said during a visit to Istria
County.
He added that the situation on border crossings was slowly
normalising.
Asked about government incentives for rural tourism and when loans
for the reconstruction of village houses would be granted, the
premier said that thanks to favourable loans the tourist offer in
Istria had been enriched with around 150 facilities.
Thanks to the long-term favourable loans which the government will
pay interest on, the number of people involved in rural tourism will
quadruple, not only in Istria, but in the whole of Croatia, Racan
said.
